In 2022, artificial intelligence (AI) took the world by storm with several stunning developments pushing the limits of narrow AI towards the holy grail of artificial general intelligence. Four breakthroughs stand out and will be significant in 2023 and beyond:
- DALL-E: the AI that creates pictures from language prompts.
- ChatGPT: the literate and coder sibling of DALL-E, creating text and code from written prompts.
- AlphaCode: an algorithm created by DeepMind that codes very well, beating 72% of human coders in average competitions.
- Gato: a generalist agent developed by DeepMind, capable of multiple tasks.
