Planet4 engages universities and companies in AI application

The new reality comes with facing Pandemic challenges and enabling technologies to contribute. As it comes to the Industry, societies bet on the new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) experts, able to adapt these technologies to the 4th industrial revolution needs. The cross-disciplinary Planet4 project takes that bet and focuses on both hard skills in AI and ML technologies and soft competencies needed to manage the changes introduced in the industrial ecosystem.

“We are happy to launch Planet4 in order to unite four different components in digital: machine learning, AI, edge computing, and IoT technologies. Thanks to the collaboration, at least 300 students will gain their skills in digital technologies and at least 30 companies will employ them to develop Industry 4.0 solutions”, says Daniele Mazzei, Assistant Professor at Computer Science Department of University of Pisa.

This pan-European Erasmus+ initiative promotes a knowledge transfer between academia and industry by achieving the integration of AI technologies in Industry 4.0 applications. International partners from academia, businesses, and innovation communities seek to enable fast identification of the most appropriate AI methodologies, empowering students to work in the frame of the 4th industrial revolution. The partnership also includes sharing of the best practices in the implementation of AI and ML on the edge for Industry 4.0 applications. Moreover, the project will give academics the possibility to gather needs and requirements from the industrial world, allowing the adaptation of AI teaching to better fit the real-world industrial pains and needs.

The Planet4 project is coordinated by the pan-European consortium, coordinated by the University of Pisa in Italy, and connects eleven collaborating partnering organizations from Spain, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Germany, Greece, and Romania. The partnering institutions include universities, business support organizations, and private tech companies collaborating in innovation ecosystems and eager to make positive changes in Industry 4.0.
